Virginians standing up to Cantor!

A group of home-state Virginians and I are planning to build a network of in-state activists– including our friends in the 7th congressional district– to stand up for our country’s interests against the near-treasonous positions on Israel being articulated by Rep. Eric Cantor.
Last Wednesday evening, on the eve of Israeli PM Netanyahu’s lengthy and difficult meeting with secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Netanyahu had an hour-long tete-a-tete in New York with Cantor, who will be the “House Majority leader”, i.e. the second-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, as of next January. During the meeting, according to a statement issued afterwards by his office, Cantor,

stressed that the new Republican majority will serve as a check on the Administration and what has been, up until this point, one party rule in Washington… He made clear that the Republican majority understands the special relationship between Israel and the United States, and that the security of each nation is reliant upon the other.

Even Ron Kampeas, the veteran columnist over at the Jewish Telegraph Agency, was astonished, writing,

I can’t remember an opposition leader telling a foreign leader, in a personal meeting, that he would side, as a policy, with that leader against the president. Certainly, in statements on one specific issue or another — building in Jerusalem, or somesuch — lawmakers have taken the sides of other nations. But to have-a-face to face and say, in general, we will take your side against the White House — that sounds to me extraordinary.

You can find much more on the Cantor Rant, from Glenn Greenwald, here.
My friends and I haven’t decided yet what our new network will be called. Maybe something like “Virginians for Our Country’s Sanity” (VOCS)? If you’re a Virginian and you’d like to help us show Rep. Cantor that he doesn’t speak for us (or, indeed, for American military leaders responsible for the lives of thousands of our fellow citizens serving in very dangerous locations overseas), then drop us a line. Give us your name, email (obviously), street address, congressional district, and we’ll see what we can do to build the network.

  1. You see what happens when you Virginians rebel against us English? America is now totally subservient to a piddling little country in the Levant. Dumb giant gets hoodwinked by a bunch of corrupt gangsters.
    What brought you to this?

  2. No, I Can’t!
Let Read Obama words at AIPAC…..
    Obama’s Speech at AIPAC

One of the many things that I admire about AIPAC is that you fight for this common cause from the bottom up. The lifeblood of AIPAC is here in this room — grass-roots activists of all ages, from all parts of the country, who come to Washington year after year to make your voices heard. Nothing reflects the face of AIPAC more than the 1,200 students who have traveled here to make it clear to the world that the bond between Israel and the United States is rooted in more than our shared national interests — it’s rooted in the shared values and shared stories of our people. And as president, I will work with you to ensure that this bond is strengthened.

  3. Cantor is quite wrong. But he is only playing games; it is actually highly flattering to Obama to suggest that he would stand up to Netanyahu.
The real problem here is the nonsense of bi-partisan foreign policy, which short circuits proper debate and allows the supporters of Israeli fascism to pose as allies and friends of the American People. They are nothing of the sort, the racist contempt displayed for Palestinians is all of a piece with the disdain Issrael shows for its critics whether they be armed, pacific, reasonable or bigoted.
The annual cost of Israel, including the subsidies given to the Arab dictators who guard it, the foregone taxes on “charitable” sponsors of illegal settlements, and the many other channels draining the US Treasury is in the tens of billions. Let Cantor be made to explain why US living standards are being cut to raise Israel’s. It is his neglect of vulnerable Americans, the poor, the young, the elderly and the millions of unemployed (not of few of whose jobs have been exported to Israel) which is treachery. His support for Netanyahu (which hardly differs from that offered by Biden, Clinton and Obama) is disgraceful but such are his politics.

  4. His support for Netanyahu (which hardly differs from that offered by Biden, Clinton and Obama)
Give us one US President or administration that differ in supporting a state an occupier, refusing all UN resolutions to withdraw from invaded land with war crimes from 1967 till now?
    the answer: NONE.
