Flotilla: American citizen among fatalities

Reuters and others are now reporting that a U.S. citizen, 19-year-old Furkan Dogan, was among those murdered by Israel during its piratical assault on the Mavi Marmara on Monday.
No wonder the Israeli authorities have been trying to keep the identities of the dead hidden for as long as they can.
Turkey’s state-run Anatolia News Agency says that Dogan “was hit by four bullets in the head and one in the chest.”
What will Pres. Obama do to assure American citizens that his administration will seek full justice for this act of murder, committed in international waters?
Update: Paul Woodward has a photo of the young man at his post on War in Context, here.

  1. ISRAEL HAS A CASE TO ANSWER, IN LAW.
“This blockade is not lawful. An embargo on adequate food and medical aid can never be lawful. As the boarding of the Mavi Marmara by Israeli forces was unlawful, those on board had a right to defend themselves, subject to the constraints of Turkish criminal law. Any force used by Israeli commandos may be judged as unlawful, let alone the use of lethal force.” DANIEL MACHOVER Human Rights Lawyer, London

  2. What will Obama do? “He will regret the loss of life”, and continue to kiss Bibi’s a**. He has already proposed an Israeli group to look into the incident with an American observer. A pure coverup maneuver just like Lyndon Johnson’s coverup of the Israeli murder of the American sailors on the Liberty 43 years ago. American lives lost mean nothing. How long do you think Obama actually knew about the American death and went along with Israel hiding it until Turkey blew the whistle? We must at all costs protect Israelis and prevent a real, honest, independent investigation. 2012 can’t come soon enough to get rid of this groveling excuse for a President. It is hard to imagine a more disgusting display than Obama’s behavior. I really thought that after we finally got rid of Bush I could finally stop being embarrassed before my foreign friends about the US; how wrong I was!

  3. Over 12 hours now since the formal announcement of the killing of an American citizen. I overestimated Obama, instead of some mealy-mouthed “regret” he has simply ignored the murder as if nothing happened. Clinton offered condolences; how big of her; she must have gotten AIPAC clearance on that one. Biden is on TV excusing the massacre. Is there no one in this administration who gives a damn about the United States?

  4. The dead American has now dropped completely off the NYT radar screen and is rapidly fading from the WAPO. Who runs the news?
