That Obama quote from Sderot

I see that Obama adviser David Axelrod today repeated on national television the little saying Obama said when he visited the southern Israeli town of Sderot back in July:

“If somebody was sending rockets into my house, where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that… And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”

So how about Palestinians, Barack Obama? Do you think they are equally as human as Israelis, and that they have equally strong needs for the security of their families?
If so, what kind of a “response” would it be justifiable for them to make after everything their families have gone through in the past three days and the past three years?
Just wondering….

  1. “We’re going to face a major international challenge. Because they’re going to want to test him, just like they did young John Kennedy. They’re going to want to test him. And they’re going to find out this guy’s got steel in his spine,” Biden said. He told the crowd to continue to stand by Obama and know they made the right choice even when the going gets tough.–Oct 20, 2008

  2. H,
An important query. Indeed compassion toward all suffering peoples in conflict is the high road; remember, the Palestinians have no political capital in the US, nor do they have AIPAC. Of course, to conflate AIPAC with Jewry is a mistake, as JStreet and Jewish Voices for Peace have active campaigns for a cessation of all hostilities. Let us help strengthen their efforts.

Why what is always expected of Palestinians. Shut up, sit quietly and take it. Do not say a word, do not life your hand, do not complain. And when the time comes and you are commanded to do so, stand up and walk quietly in formation to the mass grave they have dug for you, climb down into it, lie down in nice, neat rows, fold your arms over your chests, close your eyes, and wait quietly for them to cover you with earth.

  4. I find it hard to believe that serious people can think that “palestinians” just happen to be in the situation they are in.I can’t get my head around the casual ignoring of Arab action or non-actions.To suggest that the president of Iran is to be admired is ridiculous!

  5. Here’s a bit of reality expressed by the chief “thief” way back when Obama was still a youngstrer:
EVEN THE ORIGINAL CHIEF THIEF ADMITS TO STEALING..
“ Why should the Arabs make peace? If I was an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. THAT IS NATURAL WE HAVE TAKEN THEIR COUNTRY” –
David Ben Gurion, 1956, quoted by Nahum Goldmann in The Jewish Paradox, Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1978, p.99.
    WORTH REPEATING
(ITS) WE HAVE TAKEN THERI COUNTRY…………

  6. Put me down on Iran’s side also. This aggression moves Iraq closer to Iran, strengthens Iran and improves the chances for Muslim solidarity against the US in the ME. This part of the tragedy is the one good thing as it is a necessary step to curtail US aggression.
The US meme that US/Israel doesn’t hate Muslims but only Muslim radicals is being exploded in Gaza as Israel, using US-supplied aircraft and smart bombs, kills civilians and even bombed Gaza’s oldest university, destroying multiple buildings at two sites.
Obama’s weak justification for his non-response that ‘we only have one president at a time’ is bogus. The ‘one president’ fallacy hasn’t kept him from formulating domestic policy especially for the economy — is democracy confined to domestic affairs? No. Any US senator with any sense of fairness ought to be taking a stand, and especially a senator recently elected to the highest office in the land.
In fact we can assume that Obama probably gave the green light for this aggression when he was in Israel. Shame all over him. This is a man who doesn’t hate all wars, just dumb wars. Well, this latest news shows up that false reasoning. War is never the answer.
We know what Bush is, and now we know Obama better.

  7. One intention of the IAF was to test the application of the new smart bunker-buster bombs they got recently from the US. The coming ground incursion will provide them with an on-site analysis (along with USAF experts?) of the ensuing bomb damage against tunnels etc. and help them and the US?) with plans against Iran’s nuclear facility bunkers.
Call it the Palestinian Bomb Testing Grounds, or using Smart Bombs in a Smart War (using Obama’s vernacular).
    news report:
The Israel Air Force used a new bunker-buster missile that it received recently from the United States in strikes against Hamas targets [e.g. tunnels] in the Gaza Strip on Saturday. The GPS-guided GBU-39 is said to be one of the most accurate bombs in the world. The 113-kg. bomb has the same penetration capabilities as a normal 900-kg. bomb, although it has only 22.7 kg. of explosives. At just 1.75 meters long, its small size increases the number of bombs an aircraft can carry and the number of targets it can attack in a sortie.

  8. One wonders what one needs “bunker busters” for when blasting away above ground police stations? Real “smart.” And did the US put any restrictions on the use of these GBU-39’s? Ah well, as with the cluster bombs, it wouldn’t matter.

  9. Obama declared solidarity with the poor people of Sderot enduring Hamas rocket attacks. As you say, what about the Palestinian people enduring Israeli shelling, shootings and oppression for decades.
Plus few people mention that Sderot is Palestinian land.
It is built on the lands of a Palestinian village called Najd,
which was ethnically cleansed by Jewish terrorists
in May 1948, before Israel was declared a state
and before any Arab armies entered Palestine.
The 600+ villagers, were forced to flee for their lives.
Britain was on watch as the mandated government,
while this and many other atrocities were
    committed by Israeli terrorists.
Palestinian Arabs owned over 90 percent of the land
in Najd and, according to UN Resolution 194 and
also the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
they have a right to return home.
But Obama could never have referred to any of that and got elected.
