Oops, George, your time-frame slip is showing!

At the Annapolis summit last November, Pres. Bush pledged that he would work to secure a final-status Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement before his term in office ends. Soon after that, the goal was “clarified”, to spell out that this would only be an uncomfortable type of thing called a “shelf agreement”, that wouldn’t have any operational capacity until a whole host of other conditions had been met.
Today, in his speech in the Knesset, Bush’s timeframe seemed to be slipping even further. Um, by an additional 60 years. The most he could “promise” the non-Israeli majorities in the Middle East was that “60 years from now” the whole region would be peaceful, non-oppressive, etc etc…. And “the Palestinian people will have the homeland they have long dreamed of.”
It doesn’t really seem like a winning argument to me?
Bush also drew a quite ridiculous parallel between pre-1939 Nazi Germany and un-named “terrorists and radicals” in the Middle East today, in what was widely seen as a politicized side-swipe at Barack Obama.

  1. Remember kids, pushing forward your timeframe for results can work for you too.
Parent: “Why is your room still a mess, I told you to clean it up yesterday and today it looks even worse.”
Kid: “It may look like that now, but in 60 years it will be spotless.”
(rat scurries from under pile of clothing to grab a month old cheeto, then runs under the bed)
    Parent: “ok, carry-on”

so Israel is a naughty child who deserves a spanking. i think this analogy perfectly represents the mindset of the Israel-bashers on this site.
Naughty Israel! Go to your room!

  3. Wash DC can’t wait for the chance to truck out all the Bush-things and to put a new coat of paint and carpets in the White House so that a totally new person can occupy the presidency. Bill Clinton and Bush both ended and end their presidencies as shamed men , too young to accept that they had their chance and blew it so they have no future for the rest of their hollow lives other than to confirm the obvious while in office, and too old to blame what they did/didn’t do or will/won’t do on others. Both will be invariably remembered as the big mouth- big ego totally political hack “UN-deciders” for the way they came to the helm with nothing more on their minds than duping the public with political tactics reminiscent of the drug-company ads on cable TV: this drug will make you a new man, but be sure to tell your doctor if you feel funny as this drug has killed a lot of people. In the end, Clinton and Bush– with no statesmen’s strategies, killed a lot of people as the UN-deciders, as the political tacticians with myopic self-vision only and as the “leaders” (sic) with no ability to fathom a national strategy. Like school boys who never do their homework, they feared most the Cabinet and staffers as the “teachers” that could tell that the President has no clothes on and speaketh with a mouth full of crap.
But it all eventually comes to an end; and, with the leader-pres game lost as almost a shut-out, both are still screaming: “do over! do over!…It wasn’t fair, I need to recover my good name.” As they shave in the morning, both are plagued by “what if I had…” thoughts, so embarrassed by what self-centered small minded jerks they were– then the self-inflicted nicks with the razor begin!
Bush is pitiful in his attempt to undo his endless run of reckless errors and criminal negligence as an UN-decider. But in his last minute “do-overs” at taxpayers’ expense in the Middle East, all he can do is the only thing he knows how to do: political dirty tricks. Bill was that way too, and despite his threat: “you haven’t heard the last of me,” in Hillary’s campaign his behavior as a low-life racist (which he is not) tactician, he has sealed his own forgotten tomb out of sight and out of mind of history. Bush too is on script. If McCain gets the presidency, it will be three flim-flam men in a row (his accidental Vietnam experience notwithstanding for his Senate career speaks for itself, like the unfortunate melanomas that just won’t go away and will bring him down).
In the end, Clinton, Bush and McCain are typical of today’s American hero: the amoral hustler “entrepreneur” (guy who positions himself in the middle to take, take, take from all sides….giving nothing in return).
And so, another coat of paint, new furniture, new staff…but in the end, for the next president, the feces will soon again have to be wiped off the walls because we the people only vote for the fools that we can trust to be as dumb, as small minded and as befuddled as we are. November is our power moment when we put at the top of the world’s greatest power a person who is as small minded and self-centered as us….BUT, if Obama gets chosen this time, it’s a whole new story based on national togetherness instead of polarization for tactical ends; it will be like another Jefferson or Madison, and any of the founders who thought big and strategically long term as they steered the ship of state.
