Scandals of bribery and administrative and sexual impropriety continue to plague the highest levels of Israeli society. (Not to mention war crimes.)
The latest, about former Jerusalem mayor Uri Lupolianski, is here.
Everyone in the region is asking: When will this nation be politically and administratively ‘mature’ enough to be allowed to govern itself?

My native language isn’t English but aren’t you implying that Israel isn’t allowed to govern itself at the moment? Who exactly is stopping Israel from governing itself. For a second there, I thought you were talking about the PA.
When exactly does a “nation be[come] politically and administratively ‘mature'”? When it places corrupt officials on trial? When it replaces leaders through elections regularly?
Or do they have to be like “Everyone [else] in the region”? What exactly does Israel have to be to be like everyone else in the region? Have one President for more than two decades (as in Egypt)? Or win your father’s office right after his death with 97% of the vote (as in Syria)? Constitutionally reserve the top 3 government offices to three different ethnic groups no matter what (as in Lebanon)? Have a ruling royal family govern and administer the state unquestionably (as in INPUT ….)? Have a President with a last name of either Clinton or Bush for 20 years (as in the USA)?
The Chinese on the other hand are “effective”. Maybe Israel should be more like China?
Michael W.’s argument is no. 3 on the hasbara list: “everything sucks”.
