Shortly after I published this post earlier today about the Spy Wars underway between the Israeli team and the pro-Iranian team, I saw this post that Flynt Leverett and Hillary Mann Leverett put up onto their bog.
They are just back in the US after a research visit that took them to Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.
In Damascus, they met Khaled Meshaal. But they have thus far written about the meetng only that,
- It was notable that, in our meeting with him, Mishal did not say a word about the murder of a prominent HAMAS figure, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, in Dubai last month.
Oh well, I hope they’ll be writing a lot more, soon, from all of their destinations on the trip.
Frankly, Helena, the chances of an attack upon Lebanon are no greater than they were. As is the case for an attack on Iran. Israel could attack at any moment.
The situation has not changed. If the situation is the same, they should have attacked earlier; later only gives more time to the opposition to prepare.
Israel is hesitating, because they are not certain of the consequences, and that is fatal. They are right to hesitate. Another all-out attack on Hizbullah? If successful, a lot of damage, but Hizbullah will not be eliminated. On Iran? the same, a lot of damage, but the Ayatollahs’ regime will still be there.
They may yet do these attacks, but we’re talking at best about partial success militarily, and failure politically, all of which will have to be excused by our friends in the hasbara. No doubt they will talk it out, but the residue will remain.
Israelis not interested in Hezbollah or Iran’s Mullahs and Ahmedinajad, they interested to use both for their hasbar to gain support. Israelis for long times they keep make themselves and use the victimisation status to SUVIRVE and get support, sympathies of other nations around the world as small country trying to live in peace surrounded by enemies they ready to slaughter them.
If Israelis really interested in Hezbollah they can done it just like the spectacular operation “Dubai 11.” To those who really threaten Israelis.
Israelis destroyed Lebanon more than once using Hezbollah as excuse for their large scale military operations on Lebanon to destroy a state not a militia that one day they helped their creation.
