I’m in Beirut, briefly and very busily. Tomrrow is Ashura here. Interesting. I have a lot of work to catch up with here, then return to Damascus Sunday for a short return visit.
Just in case any of you out there cared.

H,
Yes, we care. What of the Leb detainees in Syria? You will note the difference in Ashura practices in Lebanon versus other areas of the region with Shia populations-Fascinating. Keef al Beirut? Did you make it to the tent? Tcherib awha bi Wimpy Cafe? Walla is that closed now?

Ashura practices
KDJ do you believe in these practices?!
Salah:
No, I do not personally ascribe to Shia Islam, but others do. And as a person interested in comparative work, indeed there are major differences btw Shia groups in Lebanon and in the region in toto.
Cheers,
KDJ
The ever illustrious Bolton on his pride in holding off a cease-fire, and how this occured. The piece seems to indicate that Sec. Rice was in favor of a ceasefire, particularly after Qana…(oh, but it was only 28 people)…How Proud I am of having someone like John Bolton at the helm…
