Using its wellknown and amazingly strong capacity for effective diplomacy, the Bush administration has been able to announce that after long, very complex negotiations with “Iraq” it has been able to reach agreement with “Iraq” over who gets to command the military there after June 30th.
That wellknown “national leader” Iyad Allawi fought tooth and nail for the very best possible deal for the people he represents…
Who are?
Oops, I forgot that part. Allawi was of course actually appointed by the IGC, which was appointed by the Americans. Prior to that (and most probably, until today), he was on the payroll of the CIA.
Why on earth should the Bushies expect anyone else to take any of this so-called “news” about an American creation reaching agreement with the U.S. government seriously?

Well, Helena, that is certainly a major breakthrough – American puppet reaches agreement with those who pull his strings.
In other news, in an interview on Al Arabia, Al Yawar said that the American ambassador is a very wise man, very well aware of Iraq’s troubles and regions, and he will be pleased to meet him next month.
Juan Cole also reports today that Paul Bremer has barred Muqtada al-Sadr and his lieutenants from running for elective office for 3 years because of their membership in an illegal militia. Al-Sadr rejected this decree and said that the CPA and the caretaker government had no right to make such decisions.
One wonders how Bremer expects to enforce his 3-year ban unless the CPA and its interim puppet government plan to not turn over the reins of power until after 2007. Full sovereignty indeed!
George W. Bush has said of June 30 that “It’s going to send a clear signal that terrorists can’t win.” We hardly need a signal there, of course; terrorists never win. They either die, in which case they are simply dead, or they cease to be terrorists and morph into influential parliamentarians or heads of state. On rare occasions it works the other way around – and that is indeed a very spectacular form of losing.
I think the real question here is “What can we do about the people who actually believe this drivel?” Nice to pat ourselves on the back with how astute we are..but how do we change a large percentage of the population who just eats his up.
T sticks sorry.
